Notes on the Discussion:
– I\’m in the second group
Fisrt question: What is Donnelly depicting about gender in these two cartoons? How? Why does this matter?
– Donelly shows disticniton pushed onto us from birth; shows why they\’re wrong but also how it impacts us negatively;
– very focused on how they impact women- how patriarchial based genderroles cause those assigned female at birth
– more spaces dominated by men- shows two sinariaos; one is praising women for making this far; but by the difference in the second photo but showing that women are still excluded from thses spaces while praising idl
– i disagree with the sexuality comment; they just got a random guy and said \”hey how do you think women feel about this?\”
– push the idea that feminine men are feminist and ultimaley not to be taken as seriously??
– having to remind themselves that they belong nonetheless
– first image; positive and negative
I interpreted the first cartoon as a positive because the woman is smiling in the cartoon- maybe to say that she\’s made it this far and deserves to be there; justifed with the body language (relaxed but also confident)
The idea of sitting ‘like a man’ is also interesting, as there seems to be the societal expectation that masculine traits are more valuable than tradition ‘feminine’ traits in business.
